Spain

Famous for the sun, sea, beaches and tapas. But surely as popular for it's culture, history and beautiful countryside...

An unique destination, due to its rich history and cultural heritage, diverse landscape and varied gastronomy. Here you will find green, hilly country side with pastures and small fishing harbours to the mountains with permanent snow, like the Sierra Nevada or the Pyrenees. From the steep rocky coast to the busy beaches of the Costa's, from the worldly towns to the small middle ages villages inland.

The diversity and the contrasts which characterize Spain can also been seen in the culture. The country is strewn with interesting cultural sights, each with it's own influences: Celtic, Iberian, Greek-Roman, Moors.

The Spanish people enjoy a lively culture, with it's many folk festivals and in the music and dance (think of the 'Flamenco' in Andalusia or the somewhat gentler Sardana in Cataluña), each region with it's own festivals and customs. On top of which Spain has excellent cuisine: olives & olive oil, tapas, fish and shell fish paella, wine, sherry and above all a many sided local gastronomy.

Extremadura

Here you can still enjoy real and unspoilt SpainÂ…

Not one autonomous province is characterised by so much diversity in nature and culture as Extremadura. Thanks to the treasures that many peoples left behind here, Extremadura is a true paradise for culture enthusiasts. Nature enthusiasts also have much to choose from. The area is full of contrasts. The plateau varies in height between 130 and 2400 metres, and the region consists of forests, water, mountains, and plains. This area is especially popular with birdwatchers.

The Tartessians, Celts, Alans, Arabs and, of course, the Romans have all left their traces. That's why Extremadura has an important cultural heritage. Most of the Roman buildings can be found in the capital, Mérida. Because Mérida was situated at the crossing of many roads, it became one of the most important Roman towns, which is still reflected by the Roman theatre, the amphitheatre, and the temple of Diana.

All over Extremadura, you could visit many museums and sights of various origins, form various times. These can especially be found in towns such as Cáceres (known for its storks), Trujillo (‘Cuidad de los Conquiestadores'), Plasencia (‘the pearl of the river Jerte'), Badajoz (the modern town with a long history), and of course the capital of Mérida.

In addition to a wealth of cultural heritage, Extremadura also has no fewer than 54 natural areas. The ‘Parque Natural de Monfragüe' is the most famous and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The towns of Guadalupe and Alacántara are also really worth a visit.
